We received a lot of questions on what disposable masks are medical versus surgical or procedure. Specifically, customers want to know which category Taiwan face Masks products fall into.

In short, all non-woven face masks are disposable and usually the masks are three-ply (three layers).

This three-ply material would typically consist of an outer hydrophobic non-woven material, middle melt-blown material, and an inner soft absorbent non-woven material.

The outer hydrophobic non-woven material is designed to be waterproof that help block large-particle droplets, splashes, sprays, or splatter that may contain germs (viruses and bacteria).

The melt-blown material acts as the filter that stops microbes from entering or exiting the mask.

The innermost layer is designed to absorb moisture such as saliva, mucus and sneeze droplets. This ensures when a user sneezes, the mask will be able to contain the droplets, which will not remain smeared on the wearer’s face.

Medical Grade Masks

Most face masks are made and tested against local and international standards, and in the United States, when a face mask passes the ASTM rating, it is considered a medical grade product. This means having at least 95% filtration efficiency on particles 0.1 microns, 95% on bacteria and viruses 3±0.3 microns in size, as well as passing air pressure and flammability tests.

Taiwan face masks products production meet the ASTM specifications of a level 1 mask. But Taiwan face Masks does not label our products to be intended for medical use or in healthcare. Taiwan face masks manufacturers are use the high-quality materials for all products. As a result, the outer hydrophobic non-woven layer, middle melt-blown layer, and inner layer all conform to the same standards ASTM rating across all styles. Our masks are a perfect example of this: same material and filtration ratings.

Surgical & Procedure Masks

Surgical masks must pass strict blood barrier test at velocity. In other word, that means it needs to prevent blood from penetrating the mask if a patient squirts blood at high speeds. These types of masks need to be rated at least ASTM Level 2 and above, and Taiwan face Masks does not do strict blood barrier test at velocity.
